Welcome, Apple, to the world of AI-enabled tools. Is the Singularity near? Are our brains shrinking? Do I need a USB-C port in my temple?

I’m enjoying the battle of the technology titans in the AI space. Apple’s recent announcement is much subtler than Google or Microsoft or Facebook. Their approach is that Apple Intelligence is baked into the tools that everyone already uses, is private to the individual user, and if it needs cloud computing, the clarity of what is being sent when, is clear.
This feels much less “Brave New World” and much more “Oh, the future is already here and the tools I’m already using are going to get a little more convenient and useful.”
I very much like Apple’s approach:
- Privacy is first priority
- AI is most useful in existing tools rather than “learn this new thing”
- The Apple ecosystem is vast (lots of users, lots of parts)
- Walk before running, learn where AI can be useful
